Selank — pharmacology
Molecular targets, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics and interactions as characterised in humans.
§2Pharmacology
§2.1Molecular targets
Table 2. Molecular targets recorded for Selank, with the character of the interaction and the potency where the Institute holds it.
| Target | Interaction | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism partially characterised | GABAergic and enkephalinergic modulation reported | Reported inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes and effects on GABA-A receptor expression; no primary receptor identified |
§2.2Mechanism of action
Selank is reported to produce anxiolysis without sedation or dependence, attributed to modulation of GABAergic transmission and to inhibition of enkephalin degradation. It also carries the immunomodulatory activity of the tuftsin parent.[1,2]
