Terms of use

The terms on which the Institute publishes and on which its documents may be used.

§1Publication and licence

Documents are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. Attribution is to the Compound Evidence Institute together with the document identifier. Figures carrying an illustrative marker must be reproduced with that marker.

The Institute asserts no restriction on commercial reuse beyond the terms of the licence. It asks that a certainty rating be reproduced with its qualification and regards a bare rating as a misquotation; that is a request and not a licence condition.

§2No advice, no recommendation

Nothing published by the Institute is medical advice, a diagnosis, a prescription, a treatment recommendation or a purchasing recommendation. The Institute publishes certainty ratings and never recommendations.

Compounds supplied for research use are not approved for human or veterinary use in any jurisdiction. A favourable assessment of a supplier's documentation is not a statement that any product is safe, effective, pure or correctly identified.

§3Accuracy and currency

Every document carries a publication date, a last-reviewed date and a next-review date. A document is accurate as at its last-reviewed date and no further. Regulatory status, supplier practice and the evidence base all change, and a document past its next-review date is flagged in the registry as awaiting review.

The Institute corrects errors of fact on evidence and records every correction, including corrections that do not change a conclusion, in the corrections log.

§4No relationship

Use of this site creates no relationship of any kind between a reader and the Institute. The Institute is not affiliated with any manufacturer, marketing-authorisation holder, pharmacy, laboratory or supplier named in its documents, and accepts no payment from any supplier it assesses.

The Institute conducts correspondence in writing through its secretariat only. It holds no telephone number and operates no messaging channel; any communication purporting to come from the Institute through such a channel is not from the Institute.

Nothing published by the Institute is medical advice, a diagnosis, a prescription, a treatment recommendation or a purchasing recommendation. Compounds supplied for research use are not approved for human or veterinary use in any jurisdiction, and a favourable analytical assessment of a supplier is not a statement that any product is safe or effective. The Institute publishes certainty ratings and never recommendations. No telephone number, messaging handle or ordering channel appears anywhere on this site.
